Oral history

Thanks to e-Mediateka project many recordings will be available. Were chosen  interviews with people connected with Bialystok (among others: artists, athletes, enthusiasts, “ordinary” citizens of Bialystok, Esperantists) which show a diverse range of topics. They are located within broad framework of possible time, refer to  history of Bialystok and Podlasie, taking into account topics involving stories of people from Bialystok or Podlasie, but sometimes beyond the geographical area (e.g. bieżeństwo, deportations, Warsaw uprising, emigration). Moreover Mediateka CLZ as the only one in Poland multimedia library contains wide documentation Esperanto movement, and this part of the collection will be also presented in e-Mediateka. Users will have an opportunity to get to know with whole interviews or fragments, connected with chosen topics.

Oral history

Bilewicz Wilhelm

Wilhelm Bilewicz, captain, born 24th of August in 1916, in property Filipowszczyzna (before II world war community Hołubicze, wilenskie voivodeship) in the family of Emilia nee Perchowicz and Jan Bilewicz arms Korab. His father leased this property. Till the beginning of II world war his family moved twice: to the property in Bobrowszczyzna and to the property in Grochow. He attended to elementary school in Bobrowszczyzna, later to secondary school in Glebokie (former wilenskie voivodship). In 1937 he was drafted into army to the third regiment of mounted riflemen in Wolkowysk. He was there when the war started. Together with the third regiment he was fighting among others at Sniadowo, Grodzisk, Truszki, Grabowo Szlacheckie. The 6th of October 1939 at Kalinowy Dol he was taken to German captivity. At the beginning he was imprisoned in Stalag (captive camp) III A W Luckenwalde in Brandenburgia. About 1941 he was transported to Stalag I A in Western Prussia near Krolewiec. From 1945 he has lived in Bialystok. In the same year he began work in Feeding and Information Point on the Main Train Station in Bialystok. This point was organized by Voivodship Department of State Agency of Repatriation in Bialystok. From 1946 he worked in District Enterprise of Distribution Movies. He worked there to retirement in 1984. More important titles and honors: The Cross of September Campaign 1939 r., Honorary Membership Association of Families Wolkowycka Land in Gdansk. He among others belonged to Veterans Union of the Republic of Poland and Former Political Prisoners.
