Oral history

Thanks to e-Mediateka project many recordings will be available. Were chosen  interviews with people connected with Bialystok (among others: artists, athletes, enthusiasts, “ordinary” citizens of Bialystok, Esperantists) which show a diverse range of topics. They are located within broad framework of possible time, refer to  history of Bialystok and Podlasie, taking into account topics involving stories of people from Bialystok or Podlasie, but sometimes beyond the geographical area (e.g. bieżeństwo, deportations, Warsaw uprising, emigration). Moreover Mediateka CLZ as the only one in Poland multimedia library contains wide documentation Esperanto movement, and this part of the collection will be also presented in e-Mediateka. Users will have an opportunity to get to know with whole interviews or fragments, connected with chosen topics.

Sterkowiec Jan

Jan Sterkowiec was born in 1949 (age 65), in Rzepiennik Suchy (Lesser Poland Voivodeship). He graduated from Engineering College in Rzeszów and later, from Białystok Technical University. He began to work in the Factory of Tooling and Chucks in 1972, in the Machines and Tools Pneumatics Pilot Plant, which belonged to the factory, on the position of a technologist. In 1979, he was promoted to manager of the Tool-room Department. From 1981 to 1989, he worked as a manager of the Planning Department. In 1989, he became a manager of the Health and Safety Department. In the same year he became a production supervisor in the Precision Chucks Department, on Szosa Północno-Obwodowa street, so-called CT. In 1990, he received an offer of promotion to the post of deputy director for technical matters. In 1991, he had become a chief executive officer of the Factory of Tooling and Chucks, but a year later he was dismissed from this post. He was transferred to the Sales Department. After a few years, he was assigned to the English company for a period of three and a half years. He came back in 2002. He was re-employed in Uchwyty in January 2003, but still in the same year, his employment contract was rescinded by the parties` mutual agreement. Member of the organization: Metalworkers` Trade Union, Solidarity, Polish United Workers` Party, Association of Polish Engineers and Mechanical Technicians. Personal and family life: wife Grażyna, sons Marcin and Grzegorz, granddaughter Róża.
